SEARCH ENGINE TIPS PART 2
There are many things you can do to increase your chances for a higher score on relevancy ratings. We are providing some of the things you can easily implement on your own, here.
META TAGS
A recent survey of web sites across the Internet recently discovered that less than 30% of business and organizational sites actually had a Meta 'keyword' tag, and by neglecting this, probably lost out to a great degree in returned results on some important search engines.
Another finding was that some sites continued to use traditional Meta 'keyword' stuffing in their tag, placing sometimes up to 15 or more repeats of the same word. This used to assist a page's standings, however most search engines have adjusted their Meta keyword tag relevancy and some will actually penalize a page that has too many instances of the same keyword repeated over and over.
The proper form for placing keywords in meta tags is in the <HEAD> section in the following manner:
<META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="keyword #1, keyword #2,...">
Note that the keywords should be comma separated, but you can also use phrases with more than one word in between commas.
Make sure that you have the proper sequence of elements in your document <HEAD> </HEAD> sections! This is one area that many HTML editors end up wrongly placing code.

TITLE TAGS
We often find pages we really like, and bookmark them for future reference. If the designer failed to provide a title between <TITLE> </TITLE> tags, the bookmark will appear as having no name. Very inconvenient and not recommended to anyone wanting to improve traffic to their site. Aside from inconvenience to your customers, if your site isthout a title, search engines will not provide the name of your site in the standings rankings for relevant searches either! As well, it can be useful to provide more than just the name of your company, with a very small keyword description in here as well.
JAVA SCRIPT
The use of Java Script is quite often used by the webdesigner attempting to create interactive tools, however, this should be considered carefully, and other resources, such as CGI scripting should be used in its place if at all possible. Many search engines place more weight on words found in the first part of your page, and if you have Java Script, it will be included in the indexing of total words. If you have JavaScript on your site, make sure that it is there of necessity, and that the advantages of it being there offset the poorer ranking you'll receive in some search engines.
ROBOT RECALLS
If your site is changing constantly, (and really, it should be!), with new content being added, it can be a pain to constantly re submit your site. Some search engines do require you to resubmit every so often to remain in their data base, however, by adding robot recalls, you can lessen the number of engines you need to resubmit to. If you do this, you can also even provide a time frame for when you would like the search engine robot to revisit and re index your page.
A WORD ABOUT FREE HOSTING SITES
There are many places on the Internet where one can find space to host a web site for no cost. Naturally, anything that is free can be beneficial, and of course this is very tempting to the business that needs to work within a tight budget and announce to the world that they exist.
Is free always good? Consider this: Many search engines have already stopped accepting submissions from web sites located on free services, and those that have not stopped the practice are considering it. There are several reasons for this, including the the fact that many of the sites hosted on free servers are very transient, and the worst search engine 'spammers' generally come from these types of hosts.
