Dear Misters Cote & Greene:

At least a glimmer of genius.
Enough flashes of brilliance
to often blind the casual observer,
and occasionally entrance the literate few.

I am a writer of creativity and a craftsmanship. I have written everything from humor to high-tech, and I play well with the other kids.

I would say my success has been underwhelming, considering my gifts, my diligence, and, I wince to say, perhaps even my opportunities.

I have taken a zigzag path up the ladder of accomplishment, which is to say I have missed a few rungs and altogether fallen off at times.

But I keep writing, because I've done it professionally since I was 16 years of age, and because it's the only thing I've ever WANTED to do. For several decades writing has paid the bills, although they never seem to want to stay paid. In decades past, I taught tennis and tended bar. Most recently, I've reared a 13-year-old son, although I'm counting on him needing several more years of rearing (sometimes correct expression strikes the ear with a clang of perversity. I know the last thing a teenager wants is to be "reared" by his father).

I've missed your October call to action by about three months, but if you have any projects that fit, I would welcome the opportunity to discuss them with you. In fact, I have a humorous book project that I have framed out and worked on intermittently for several years. I think it has great marketability, and since I'm writing it, I know it's entertaining (although I could be biased).

At any rate, thank you for listening to my story, at least the abridged version.

Best wishes,
Dennis Bloomquist
