Asking me what my favorite book would be is akin to asking a minstrel
what his very favorite song is.
I think I have several favorite books, for various reasons including the
mood I happen to be in.
I did promise a follow-up post to this thread, but found it difficult to
even come up with a 'top ten' list. Several books and authors came to
mind, ranging from Dickens, Hardy, LeCarre, and believe it or not, Dr.
Seuss!
I realize that there are many good books that have been left unread,
even some that are possibly forgotten, and any list I could come up with
should not be considered exclusive, but here goes, in no particular
order:
1. It Happened on Mulberry Street - Dr. Seuss
2. Ivanhoe - Sir Walter Scott
3. Selected Poems of John Donne
4. Song of Solomon - Solomon, Old Testament
5. Gulliver's Travels - Jonathan Swift
6. Far From The Madding Crowd - Thomas Hardy
7. The Night Manager - John LeCarre
8. Martin Rattler - R. M. Ballantyne
9. The Pickwick Papers - Charles Dickens
10. Great Expectations - Charles Dickens
Sigh..now that I have typed that out, I am not so sure. Do dictionaries
count? And of course, I have forgotten my recent introduction to Plato,
and 'The Last Days of Socrates.'
Perhaps in the very near future, 'Battle of the Books' by Swift and 'The
Brothers Karamazov' will make the list!
Happy now, Wendy? :)
